Issues & Solutions
In Alberta, many of the most pressing environmental issues are around water and energy. Our Environment Task Force has focused on these areas because what happens with water and energy in Alberta will have important consequences for individuals, communities and our province.
Water
Water is essential to all we do and as such demands our attention, especially given Alberta's looming water crisis and the major changes being proposed to the way we allocate water in our province. That's why PIA is active in and was central to establishing Our Water Is Not For Sale, a growing network of organizations and individuals working to protect Alberta's water. We recognize that water is essential to all life and should be protected for human needs and for the ecosystems on which our survival depends. As such we are troubled by government plans to move to a system that would allocate water according to ability to pay. Visit the website to learn more and to take action.
Energy, Climate Change and Sustainability
As home the of the tar sands, Alberta has been at the centre of a heated debate on energy, climate change and sustainability. Unquestionably, Albertans' choices on energy will have important consequences both globally and locally.
Our task force has been raising awareness and promoting education and dialogue through events such as film screenings, book launches, conferences and speaking tours.
