Public Interest Alberta is proud to support Action to End Poverty in Alberta. Please visit their website to learn more about how you and your community can help promote a comprehensive poverty-reduction strategy.

PIA has been working with our Human Services & Poverty Task force, which includes Action to End Poverty in Alberta and Vibrant Communities Calgary, towards establishing a comprehensive poverty strategy for our province. That work also includes releasing reports with the Edmonton Social Planning Council, and most recently the Alberta College of Social Workers, on poverty and the actions needed to tackle poverty in our province. The November 2011 report, In This Together: Ending Poverty in Alberta, shows that the number of children living in poverty in Alberta rose dramatically from 53,000 to 73,000 in just one year (from 2008 to 2009 - the most recent years for which data is available). For reports from previous years please visit the resources page.
