Bissell Centre is preparing to end day-use shelter services as funding dries up, and Boyle Street will wind down some day spaces, but the city is not coming to rescue these agencies this time.

Edmonton city council decided not to renew temporary gap funding for the two agencies when city administrators told them in a private meeting March 12 the money would soon run out. Municipal funding began in 2021 amid the COVID-19 pandemic, with a top-up in 2022 and $4.08 million last May. Dollars for both organizations helped connect vulnerable Edmontonians to social and housing workers, keep them warm in the winter, and potentially provide them with a meal or coffee. Read more →
